The Egypt Game

By Zilpha Keattey Snyder

When I read about April who was sent to live her grandmother and reluctant to get along with school friends, I briefly felt that it could be the growing story of a lonely girl. She would find a golden hearted adult or a friend and would be successful in fitting in the new environment. Could be typical. But at the same time, I wondered that what's hidden behind the title of the Egypt Game.

April looks impudent and blunt with others' opinion on her unique hairstyle and fake eyelashes. She is only 6th grader and just separated from birth mother who is working in Hollywood with her boyfriend.

Melanie is living in the same apartment of April and her grandmother. She shortly becomes mesmerised with the April's boldness and her imagination on game which consists of the ritual, statues, decorations and pharaoh. With April, she plays a role of priestess in the game.

Marshall is Melanie's brother who is only 4 years old. He's also playing a very important role in the game.

Later Elizabeth, Toby and Ken join the game.

The Egypt Game doesn't deploy with only how the characters make the game perfectly. It is also unexpectedly twined with the murder case.
