Bud, not Buddy

Why does this book get awarded a lot? Whenever I choose the book, as I want to select a book which is not only of fun but also worthy reading for you, I always have to answer to this question. Like a teacher's responsibility. Mostly, agreeably nodding, I finish reading. This book is not an exception.
Bud is on the journey of finding his birth father. When he decides to meet his father who seems to have been very bad to his mother, it doesn't look like that it is destined. As the evidence of family relationship is never definite, rather just a hunch.
But, Bud perseveringly continues the journey to the end. Happy ending like finding his brith father who gives him a bear hug? What would I say but "find it for yourself."
