The Giver

Lexile : 760

By Lois Lowry

The place (a community) of the novel seems ideal in many aspects as all people look well

educated to follow the rules without any conflicts and they look satisfied with what they're given. But as I followed the main character, Jonas(12 years old boy), in the story, I felt devastated when I came to know that the place is not utopia at all but rather dystopia. Everything, including curiosity and dream, should be controlled here. So if there's any deviations, without exception, it should be eradicated. The way to be controlled was beyond my imagination.

Over the course of erasing the humanity in people, the controllers had to keep the role of the giver. To be a giver, Jonas had to know the truth hidden behind this artificially made happiness.

I recommend this book to all Archimedes.
